Velvet Cardboard Anthurium
Anthurium clarinervium
Anthurium clarinervium is an incredibly popular tropical aroid, highly prized for its thick, leathery, heart-shaped leaves of a dark, velvety green. The leaves are highlighted by contrasting, bright white veins that form a geometric pattern. Unlike flowering Anthuriums, this species is grown entirely for its magnificent foliage. It requires high humidity and bright indirect light to maintain its velvet leaves.
Native Origin & Climate
Rocky limestone outcrops and tropical rainforests of Chiapas, Mexico.
Expert Pruning Tip
Trim old foliage near the base of the plant using clean, sharp scissors. Avoid tearing the petioles off the central stem.

Green Thumb Required. Demanding. Requires high humidity, careful watering, and is sensitive to mineral salts in tap water.
Bright indirect light. Sensitive to direct sun, which will scorch and fade the dark green leaves. Perfect for east or north-facing windows with filtered light.
Moderate. Water when the top 3-4cm of potting soil feels dry. Dislikes wet feet; ensure the pot has excellent drainage to avoid root rot.
Extremely chunky, well-aerating mix. Combine 40% orchid bark, 20% perlite, 20% peat moss, and 20% charcoal/pumice to replicate its epilithic natural habitat.
Warm temperatures (18-28°C) and high humidity (60%+). Thrives in humid bathrooms or grouped with other plants. Protect from air drafts.
Propagation is done by division of the root ball or by tissue culture in commercial environments.
