Mexican Snowball
Echeveria elegans
Echeveria elegans, commonly known as Mexican Snowball, is a popular evergreen succulent that forms tight, rose-shaped rosettes of pale blue-green leaves coated in a powdery waxy layer (farina). Native to semi-desert regions of Mexico, it produces arching pink-red stems with lantern-shaped pink and yellow flowers in spring and summer. It is highly valued for rock gardens, ground cover, and containers.
Native Origin & Climate

Localized Australian Care Taxonomy
Beginner Friendly. Extremely easy to care for, requiring very little attention and water.
Full sun to bright indirect light. Needs at least 4-6 hours of direct sun daily to maintain its tight shape and blue coloration. Direct hot afternoon summer sun in Australia can cause leaf burn; some filtered afternoon shade is ideal.
Low. Use the soak-and-dry method: water thoroughly, then allow the potting mix to dry out completely before watering again. Water very sparingly in winter.
Fast-draining succulent and cactus mix. A mix of 50% premium potting soil, 30% pumice or perlite, and 20% coarse sand is ideal to avoid root rot.
Prefers warm, dry climates. Can tolerate light frost if kept dry, but needs protection from prolonged wet winters.
Highly prolific; offsets (pups) grow around the base and can be detached and replanted easily.
Compact, symmetrical rosettes resembling delicate pale blue-green flowers, creating a clean, geometric garden texture.
Ideal for container gardens, mixed succulent bowls, rockeries, or border edging in sunny garden beds.
Versatile Sheltered
Safe:Non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans, making it a safe choice for household gardens and windowsills.
