Swiss Cheese Plant
Monstera deliciosa
Monstera Deliciosa is a spectacular tropical climbing plant native to the rainforests of southern Mexico. Known for its massive, glossy green leaves with natural splits and holes (fenestrations), it brings an instant jungle vibe to any interior. Easy to care for and fast-growing under the right conditions, it is a staple of modern plant styling.
Native Origin & Climate
Tropical Mexican rainforest understory. Thrives in warm, humid, dappled shade conditions across Queensland and New South Wales.
Expert Pruning Tip
Trim yellowing or older leaves near the base of the stem. Wipe the large leaves with a damp microfiber cloth monthly to clear dust and allow the plant to breathe.

Localized Australian Care Taxonomy
Beginner Friendly. Resilient and highly adaptable. Copes well with occasionally missed waterings, making it a great starter plant.
Bright, indirect light. Protect from hot, direct Australian afternoon sun, which will bleach and burn the foliage. Handles lower light, but fenestrations may decrease.
Moderate. Water thoroughly when the top 5cm of potting mix feels completely dry. Typically every 7-10 days in summer, reducing to every 2-3 weeks in winter.
Rich and very chunky mix. Use 60% indoor premium potting soil, 25% orchid bark, and 15% coarse perlite to replicate its epiphytic natural environment.
Enjoys warm temperatures (18°C–30°C) and moderate humidity. Adapts easily to Brisbane and Sydney outdoor climates. Indoors, guard against Melbourne or Adelaide winter heating dry-outs.
Stem cuttings with at least one node and aerial root. Root easily in water or moist sphagnum moss during spring and summer.
Sculptural, climbing, and tropical. Broad heart-shaped fenestrated leaves that look best supported by a moss totem or sturdy trellis.
Bright corners of living rooms, dining rooms, or shaded, warm verandas and patios in coastal areas.
Indoor
Toxic:Contains calcium oxalate crystals. Ingesting causes burning of the mouth, throat, and lips, and severe digestive irritation in pets and children.
