ZZ Plant
Zamioculcas zamiifolia
Zamioculcas Zamiifolia (ZZ Plant) is an exceptionally tough, evergreen succulent native to dry grasslands and forests of Eastern Africa. Boasting thick, fleshy, upright stems lined with highly glossy, dark-green oval leaves, it is legendary for surviving low light, dry air, and long periods without water, making it the ultimate indoor plant.
Native Origin & Climate
Dry, rocky soils of East Africa. Perfectly suited to indoor offices, homes, and low-light spaces across Australia.
Expert Pruning Tip
Cut away entirely yellowing stems close to the soil line using a clean blade. Avoid pruning to shape, as stems grow straight up naturally.

Localized Australian Care Taxonomy
Beginner Friendly. Extremely low-maintenance. Thrives on neglect and is highly resistant to pests and dry air. Hard to kill.
Highly adaptable. Prefers bright, indirect light, but survives in deep shade, dark corridors, and fluorescent office rooms.
Very Low. Thick rhizomes under the soil store water. Allow the potting mix to dry out 100% before watering. Water monthly in summer, 6-8 weeks in winter.
Extremely fast-draining. Blend a premium potting mix with 30% perlite and 10% coarse sand, or use a specialty cactus potting soil.
Tolerates dry air, ducted heating, and air conditioning easily. Keep indoors in cold southern AU winters; does not tolerate frost.
Division of rhizomes or stem/leaf cuttings. Division is easiest. Leaf cuttings in moist mix take several months to form rhizomes.
Sleek, architectural, and modern. High-gloss, dark green leaf stalks that look polished without leaf shine. High structural appeal.
Bedrooms, dark office desks, hallways, or bathrooms. Great for modern, low-maintenance residential spaces.
Indoor
Toxic:Contains calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing leaves causes immediate burning, swelling of the mouth/throat, and stomach upset in pets and kids.
